SHE participates in Climate Change Symposium at National Academy of Sciences

On May 3, 2019, SHE was honored to present a scientific poster at the Johns Hopkins University’s Climate Change Symposium held at the National Academy of Sciences Auditorium. This Climate Change Symposium featured speakers and presentations/posters from organizations from diverse fields, to provide a framework for understanding climate change and engaging in a conversation with a range of climate leaders.

Our scientific poster was entitled: The Ambassador-Led Social Enterprise in Oaxaca, Mexico: Sustainably Spreading Solar Cooking in Rural Communities. It summarized the results of our pilot project launching a Haines solar cooker social enterprise in Oaxaca in 2017,  and measuring the adoption and impact of the first 50 solar cookers on its customers in 2018. Important findings include market research data showing the Haines solar cooker had an average price point of 40 USD, and evaluation studies showing nearly half of the first 50 customers experienced a 50% or more reduction in household fuel savings.
